Meet Repro for All: Arizona Organizer Jamila Rahim

In our “Meet Reproductive Freedom for All” series, get to know our community—organizers and activists who believe that everybody should be free to control their own bodies and lives. Our movement is growing every day—we want you to be a part of it.

I’m an organizer because I truly believe in the power of grassroots change.

With the challenges we face today, things can feel so global, daunting, and overwhelming, but I organize to make my small corner of the world better.

How I got involved

My first election was in 2016—Trump versus Clinton—and since then, all I’ve known is political vitriol and extremism. Through organizing, I’ve come to realize that we have more in common with our neighbors than the media or political powers want us to believe.

Big wins

One of my biggest wins in 2024 was passing the Arizona Abortion Access Act through Proposition 139, a historic ballot measure our organization led in Arizona to enshrine the fundamental right to abortion in our state constitution.

Through grassroots organizing, coalition building and partnering with politicians, local groups, and volunteers, we were successful in ending Arizona’s cruel and dangerous abortion ban while defending us from future attacks by anti-abortion extremists in the state. That’s a victory I’ll carry with me for a long time.

Looking ahead to 2025

I’m most excited about building a community rooted in care. I truly believe we, as humankind, are an ecosystem, and now more than ever, we will need one another.

As an organizer, my goal is to extend a warm embrace to those who need community and to create systems and spaces that reflect Reproductive Freedom for All’s mission through volunteerism, advocacy, and, of course, some good-natured fun. We will persist because we have each other. I’d love to see you at an event in Arizona soon.
