Washington, DC — Today, after 14 failed votes and days of chaos on the floor, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan—it makes no difference to us. No matter who holds the gavel, every single member of the House GOP majority opposes what 8 in 10 Americans support: the right to abortion. Our mission remains the same: To restore the right to abortion in all 50 states and expand reproductive freedom. Speaker McCarthy, don’t get too comfortable on the dais. Voters are watching.”Â
