Reproductive Freedom for All Freedom Georgia Responds to Members of State’s Maternal Mortality Committee Being Dismissed

Atlanta, GA Today, new reporting revealed that all members of Georgia’s Maternal Mortality Committee were dismissed by the state following a damning ProPublica report shining a light on the deaths of Candi Miller and Amber Nicole Thurman. The state maternal mortality review committee determined their deaths were preventable, and ProPublica obtained copies of the report. Their cases were among the first reported deaths as a direct result of a lack of access to abortion care because of an abortion ban.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Georgia Campaigns, Alicia Stallworth, released the following statement:

“It is clear that this decision is meant to silence our voices, but we won’t succumb to this fear-baiting. Dismantling the group that bravely alerted the nation to the horrors of Georgia’s deadly abortion ban will not come without consequences. This is a scare tactic meant to stop full investigations into the circumstances of pregnant women’s deaths across the state. Now more than ever, it’s important to mobilize against anti-abortion extremists like t Governor Kemp who are responsible for these deadly bans.”
