Defeat of anti-choice, anti-freedom Republican candidate Genevieve Collins is a win for Texans and reproductive freedom
Texas — Today, voters in Texas’ 32nd Congressional District reelected NARAL-endorsed incumbent Rep. Colin Allred to the U.S. House of Representatives. Allred’s victory over anti-choice, anti-freedom Republican Genevieve Collins marks a huge win for reproductive freedom and keeps a critical seat in the House.
In response to Allred’s victory, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement:
“We are proud to have endorsed Rep. Colin Allred, a proven champion for reproductive freedom, and congratulate him on winning this critical race. We know that Rep. Allred will continue to be a fierce defender of our fundamental rights in the House of Representatives—and we need elected officials like him now more than ever.”
NARAL endorsed Allred as part of its largest-ever electoral program. The historic program reached over 3 million voters in key states including Texas.
Texas has some of the most severe restrictions on abortion in the United States, including forcing delays before a person can receive abortion care and subjecting patients to mandatory biased counseling. These restrictions disproportionately harm BIPOC, low-income, and rural communities, and are part of a coordinated effort by the Radical Right to maintain white patriarchal control at all costs.
