NARAL Pro-Choice America Applauds Congressional Democrats for Reintroducing Bill to Protect Access to Birth Control

Washington, DC Today, Democrats in the U.S. Senate, led by Sens. Ed Markey (D-MA), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Reps. Kathy Manning (D-NC), Sara Jacobs (D-CA), Nikema Williams (D-GA), and Angie Craig (D-MN), reintroduced the Right to Contraception Act. This bill would create a statutory right for individuals to use and for doctors to prescribe contraception, while also authorizing the U.S. attorney general and impacted individuals to enforce this right.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“From the U.S. Supreme Court to state legislatures nationwide to the halls of Congress, anti-abortion extremists are setting their sights on birth control. We need all hands on deck to defend it. We are grateful to Sens. Markey, Hirono, and Duckworth, as well as Reps. Manning, Jacobs, Williams, and Craig for their leadership in protecting this fundamental right, and we look forward to continued collaboration to send this bill to President Biden’s desk.”
