NARAL Pro-Choice America Applauds Reintroduction of the Health Equity and Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Families Act

Washington, DC Today, Democrats in Congress, led by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Nanette Barragán (D-CA), reintroduced the Health Equity and Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Families Act. This crucial legislation would enable countless immigrant and migrant families to access the health care they need, including by broadening access to contraceptive care, maternity care, and other preventive sexual and reproductive health care services for immigrant communities.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:

“As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve seen first-hand how critical it is to ensure our communities can access the health care they need. We have long faced discriminatory policies and rhetoric that threaten our well-being and contribute to health disparities. The bottom line is that ensuring that immigrants can live with agency and dignity is deeply tied to reproductive freedom. We’re grateful to our champions in Congress and our partners at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice and National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum for fighting for health care access for immigrant communities.”
