NARAL Pro-Choice America Calls out Blake Masters’ Anti-Choice Extremism in Light of Republican Senate Primaries

Phoenix, AZ — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America is calling out Blake Masters, who is now confirmed to be the Republican nominee in Arizona’s U.S. Senate race following this week’s primary election. Masters will face NARAL-endorsed U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) in the November general election. Sen. Kelly, a leader for reproductive freedom, has represented Arizona in the Senate since 2020.
NARAL Pro-Choice America Southwest Regional Director Caroline Mello Roberson said:
“Blake Masters has repeatedly called for the end of Roe v. Wade and has now hitched his wagon to MAGA Republicans vying for a national abortion ban. This is completely out of touch with the values of the 9 in 10 Arizonans who know that each of us should have the freedom to decide if, when, and how to start or grow a family, free from political interference. Arizonans deserve a senator who will work for them, not for an extremist agenda more focused on political gain than the needs of the people they serve. That is why NARAL Pro-Choice America proudly endorses Senator Mark Kelly for reelection to continue representing Arizonans in the U.S. Senate. He is the leader Arizona needs to protect and expand access to abortion in this critical moment.”
Masters has repeatedly gone on the record to attack Roe and call for an end to the right to abortion—calling the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn it a “huge victory.” He also supports a national abortion ban and has called for ideological language defining when life begins to be locked into federal law. In contrast, Sen. Kelly has been a leader in the fight for reproductive freedom, earning a 100% on NARAL’s Congressional Record on Reproductive Freedom. Sen. Kelly is a cosponsor of critical legislation to protect and expand reproductive freedom, including the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights (HER) Act.
In June, the anti-choice supermajority on the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the legal right to abortion in our country as we know it. Right now, roughly half of the states in the country are at risk of banning abortion. Of those, 14 states have bans in place, and many others are pushing to do the same.
