Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Cruz and Britt’s Phony IVF Bill

Washington, DC Today, Republican U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and Katie Britt introduced legislation that claims to protect in-vitro fertilization (IVF). This bill comes in the wake of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that threatened access to IVF and led some providers in the state to have to pause access to the treatment. This bill claims to protect IVF but falls short. The bill would allow for states to have policies that could limit or restrict access. Democrats led by Senator Tammy Duckworth have already introduced expansive legislation to protect IVF, but it was immediately blocked by Republicans.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“This is a blatant and hypocritical attempt for two staunchly anti-abortion Republicans to try to save face with voters. Senate Republicans not only support policies that threaten IVF and birth control, they also enabled Trump to appoint conservatives to the Supreme Court who overturned Roe v. Wade and emboldened extremist judges to attack fertility treatments. Those are the facts, and Republicans can’t escape them.”
