Kari Lake’s Extreme Agenda is Dangerous for Arizona

Washington, DC — Today, anti-abortion extremist Kari Lake is expected to launch her bid for the U.S. Senate in Arizona. Lake’s hostility towards reproductive freedom is in direct contrast to the will of the majority of Arizonans, 9 in 10 of whom support the freedom to decide if and when to start or grow a family. While running for governor, Lake promised to “uphold the law” passed in 1864 that criminalizes people who seek and provide abortion care in the state. She also called for Arizona to adopt a “carbon copy” of Texas’ vigilante-enforced abortion ban, SB 8, a law that would ban nearly all abortion and put a bounty on anyone who would try to help a person trying to access abortion care.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“We’ve defeated Kari Lake once, and we will do it again when we help elect Rep. Ruben Gallego as the next U.S. Senator of Arizona. As Republicans push for a national abortion ban, we can’t afford to have Lake’s extremist agenda join their ranks in Congress—and our members are already getting to work to ensure it doesn’t happen.”

Last week, Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Rep. Ruben Gallego for the U.S. Senate, citing his Reproductive Freedom record in Congress. He cosponsored priority bills, including the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act, which would advance abortion access and reproductive freedom and also repeal the Hyde Amendment.
