Washington, DC Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America commemorates the 58th anniversary of the historic Supreme Court decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, a landmark ruling recognizing a constitutional right to birth control. However, as we approach the one-year mark of the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the threats to contraception have intensified as anti-abortion extremists aggressively target birth control in a post-Dobbs America. These relentless assaults on birth control have been amplified by the actions of anti-abortion Republicans who blocked the Right to Contraception Act last year. In light of these attacks, NARAL is continuing to fight for policies that expand access to birth control, including the Affordability is Access Act and other critical legislation.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“As we celebrate the monumental ruling of Griswold v. Connecticut, we also recognize that we cannot allow the clock to be turned back on our progress. Access to birth control is critical to making sure that all of us can make our own decisions about our lives, families, and futures. Anti-choice extremists know it, and that’s exactly why they’re hellbent on pushing it out of reach. On this anniversary, it’s more important than ever that we double down on our work to protect this fundamental right.”
