NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds to Doug Burgum’s 2024 Announcement
Washington, DC — Today, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum announced his campaign for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. In April of this year, he signed a total ban on abortion into state law, which includes criminal penalties for providers.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Like the clown car of extremist GOP candidates he just squeezed into, Governor Burgum’s position on abortion is wildly at odds with the American electorate. We know that 8 in 10 Americans support legal abortion and are horrified by the stories of women being forced to wait until they’re near death to access basic medical care—a direct consequence of abortion bans like the one Burgum proudly signed. No one wants what Burgum and the GOP are selling, and it will be even clearer come Election Day.”
