NARAL Pro-Choice Michigan is Now Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan
Lansing, MI — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Michigan is charting a new path forward as Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, our core mission remains steadfast and unchanged—continuing to resolutely fight for the reproductive freedom of all Michiganders while honoring the legacy that NARAL Pro-Choice Michigan and its 125,000 members have cultivated.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Caroline Mello Roberson released the following statement:
“Michigan shines as a beacon of freedom, boldly leading the charge to expand abortion access and protect our fundamental rights. Michiganders have repeatedly risen to the occasion, approved Prop 3, elected champions who passed groundbreaking legislation, and more. Reproductive Freedom For All Michigan is proud of our work in the Great Lakes State and thrilled to be embarking our organization’s next chapter alongside our 125,000 members. Our mission is unchanged—and realizing it has never been more important. We are committed to our vision for a future where every single Michigander has true reproductive freedom.”
This announcement coincides with NARAL Pro-Choice America becoming Reproductive Freedom for All. It comes after a vote from our organization’s membership and after years of NARAL research and discussions with folks in communities across the country found that people think of abortion rights and access as a matter of freedom. Our research shows that reproductive freedom is a core value for people across the country—across religion, race, and age. While our name and look have changed, our mission remains the same, fighting for a world where reproductive freedom is a reality for everybody.
Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan, formerly NARAL Pro-Choice Michigan, has had staff working on the ground to mobilize members in support of abortion rights and access since 2019. Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan is dedicated to advancing reproductive freedom through legislative, political, and community organizing alongside our 125,000 members in the state. We organize directly in communities, with door-to-door outreach, phone banking, online actions, and community events. We are proud to have mobilized our members as Michigan took significant strides in the right for reproductive freedom in 2022 by electing a reproductive freedom majority in the state legislature, reelecting Gov. Whitmer and other champions, and approving the Proposal 3 ballot initiative, which locked the right to reproductive freedom, including the right to abortion and contraception, into the state constitution. However, our work didn’t stop there. Most recently, Democrats in the Michigan State House and Senate, along with the efforts made by Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan and our on-the-ground partners, introduced the Reproductive Health Act (RHA).
