Reno, Nevada — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada is charting a new path forward as Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, our core mission remains steadfast —continuing to resolutely fight for the reproductive freedom of all Nevadans while honoring the legacy that NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada and its 48,000 members have cultivated.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Caroline Mello Roberson released the following statement:
From approving the 1990 referendum to lock abortion rights into law to passing the Trust Nevada Women Act, to our efforts to add reproductive freedom protections to our state constitution, Nevada has shown that our reproductive freedom is non-negotiable time and again. Now, our organization is putting our values front and center as we enter the next era of our fight. In our state, 4 in 5 voters want the government to stay out of decisions about abortion—and our organization is excited to chart a more inclusive path forward to mobilize our growing base of support. Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada and our 48,000 members across the state are ready to continue to do the work that is necessary to protect every single person’s right to make their own decisions about their lives, bodies, and futures. Our movement is stronger than ever, and we are committed to our vision for a future where every single Nevadan has true reproductive freedom.
This announcement coincides with NARAL Pro-Choice America becoming Reproductive Freedom for All. It comes after a vote from our organization’s membership and after years of NARAL research and discussions with people in communities across the country found that people think of abortion rights and access as a matter of freedom. Our research shows that reproductive freedom is a core value for people across the country—across religion, race, and age. With this change, our organization boldly forges ahead toward a future where reproductive freedom is a reality for everybody.
In 2016, NARAL took its fight for reproductive freedom to Nevada and launched NARAL Pro-Choice Nevada (now Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada). Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada is dedicated to advancing reproductive freedom through legislative, political, and community organizing. We have organizers on the ground in the state, which allows us to organize directly in communities alongside our 48,000 members with door-to-door outreach, phone banking, online actions, and community events.
