Ohio — Today, NARAL-endorsed candidate Kate Schroder lost her bid for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio’s 1st Congressional District.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response:
“While we had hoped to see a different outcome in this race, NARAL Pro-Choice America and our members will never stop fighting for the 77% of Americans who believe in the legal right to abortion. There’s no question that Representative Steve Chabot’s record on reproductive freedom is wildly out of touch with the views of the vast majority of Americans. We are proud to have stood with Kate Schroder as she gave Rep. Chabot a run for his money in this race.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said:
“We’re grateful to Kate Schroder for running such a hard-fought campaign. Unfortunately, Ohio’s congressional districts are stacked against candidates like Schroder because of decades of gerrymandering. Ohio’s congressional delegation should look more like Ohio, and Schroder and her team did everything they could to stand up for reproductive freedom in this campaign. Dedicated and determined local activists will continue the fight against renewed Republican efforts to block abortion in Ohio, and we will be there to stand with them and fight every step of the way.”
Anti-choice, anti-freedom Republican incumbent Rep. Steve Chabot has consistently earned a 0% score from NARAL in the Congressional Record on Choice.
In the 2020 election cycle, NARAL Pro-Choice America ran its largest-ever electoral program designed to reach, persuade, and mobilize key voters in target states across the country who are motivated by Trump and Republicans’ unyielding attacks on reproductive freedom.
