New Ad From NARAL Pro-Choice America Calls Out Gov. Brian Kemp’s Willingness to Ban IVF, Contraception, and Abortion Care
Georgia — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America released a new ad backed by a five-figure buy shining a light on Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s recent comments reaffirming his agenda to further eviscerate reproductive freedom in the Peach State. Those comments include indicating he supports a statewide ban on the destruction of embryos, which could result in restrictions being placed on in-vitro fertilization (IVF). This comes just one month after he was caught on tape stating he is open to banning contraception.

NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Georgians are facing the most critical election of their lives this November. Governor Brian Kemp is proposing a world where every facet of our reproductive lives—access to contraception, abortion care, and now fertility treatments like IVF—are pushed out of reach in Georgia. This is a downright dystopian vision of the future and one we must do everything in our power to prevent. In these final weeks until Election Day, NARAL is doubling down on our efforts to kick Kemp to the curb and elect a true visionary and champion for reproductive freedom: Stacey Abrams.”
NARAL Pro-Choice America Southeast Campaigns Director Alicia Stallworth added:
“Anti-choice politicians in Georgia have been building to this moment, and now they are ripping the mask off their evil plans to eradicate our reproductive freedoms completely. Georgians deserve better, and that’s why NARAL is fighting to create a world where we are all free to make our own decisions about our lives and families—and that starts with electing Stacey Abrams.”
Earlier this month, NARAL released new polling from EMC Research showing that Georgia voters overwhelmingly oppose efforts to restrict abortion access and vehemently oppose other efforts to restrict contraception. 92% of Georgia voters do not believe abortion should be illegal. Additionally, 94% of Georgians oppose—with 87% strongly opposed—banning birth control.
EMC Research’s polling also found that:
- 86% of Black men oppose Roe v. Wade being overturned, and 79% oppose Georgia’s abortion ban.
- 62% of voters oppose—and 55% strongly oppose—the recent overturning of Roe vs. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court.
- 62% of voters oppose—and 52% strongly oppose—Georgia’s six-week ban on abortion, which was signed into law by Gov. Kemp in 2019.
- 95% of white women ages 30-49 oppose potential legislation prohibiting access to birth control, with 92% strongly opposing. 86% also oppose—with 76% strongly opposing—prohibiting access to emergency contraception.
- 74% of voters oppose prohibiting access to prescription medications for at-home abortion care or miscarriage management.
- 83% oppose criminal penalties for medical professionals who provide reproductive healthcare.
Stacey Abrams, a NARAL-endorsed reproductive freedom champion, is locked in a tight race with Gov. Kemp and the contrast between them is as stark as ever. Recently, NARAL Pro-Choice America released an analysis of mail ballot requests in Georgia that signaled an early sign of enthusiasm for Democrats amid anti-choice Republicans’ attacks on reproductive freedom. The analysis, conducted by TargetSmart, a leading progressive data and polling firm, found that women, people of color, and Democrats are outpacing Republicans and key conservative voting blocks in mail ballot requests.
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization—ending the constitutional right to abortion and opening the door for extremist state lawmakers to put total bans on abortion in place. This decision is already having a devastating impact throughout the country as 15 states, including Georgia, are currently enforcing extreme or total bans on abortion. The people hurt most by these bans and restrictions are those who already face barriers to accessing abortion care—including women; Black, Indigenous, and other people of color; those working to make ends meet; the LGBTQ+ community; immigrants; young people; those living in rural communities; and people with disabilities.
