ON CAMERA: GOP Governor Candidate Winsome Earle-Sears is “Speaking” About How She Wants to Restrict Abortion Access

Washington, DC – During a recently resurfaced video, Virginia Lieutenant Governor and GOP candidate for Virginia governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, is seen on camera repeatedly yelling “I am speaking” at voters. But when she speaks, all she does is reaffirm her anti-abortion record.

Let’s see what Winsome Earle-Sears is saying about her extreme anti-abortion record:

  • Earle-Sears said she “couldn’t resist” voting against the Right to Contraception Act, a bill that would guarantee Virginia women access to birth control and contraception.
  • Earle-Sears refused to commit to protecting abortion access in the state during a chaotic interview with CNN’s Manu Raju. When asked directly, she refused to answer a direct question about whether or not she could guarantee that, if elected, she would not further restrict abortion access in Virginia. Instead, she lied about her opponent, Abigail Spanberger’s platform, and spread misinformation about abortion, amplifying a false, harmful narrative meant to intimidate and confuse voters.
  • Earle-Sears has openly supported extreme abortion bans like Texas’ SB8 ban, and previously said that Virginia should copy Texas in enacting one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country, which seeks to ban nearly all abortion in Virginia.
  • Earle-Sears said that she wants to make abortion illegal in all cases, without exceptions for rape and incest. She also said she considers abortion “genocide” and that unwanted babies should be placed for adoption.
  • During her 2021 campaign for lieutenant governor, Earle-Sears’ campaign website said “I will do everything in my power to stop this act from taking place in Virginia.” She then promptly attempted to scrub this abortion section from her website around September 2021.
