Reproductive Freedom for All Applauds Vice President Harris’ Selection of Tim Walz as Running Mate
Washington, DC — Today, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris announced that Governor Tim Walz will be her running mate for her 2024 presidential run.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Gov. Walz has been a steadfast champion for reproductive freedom, working tirelessly to protect and expand abortion access for Minnesotans. We applaud Vice President Harris for selecting him as her running mate—solidifying the most pro-reproductive freedom presidential ticket in U.S. history. The Biden-Harris administration did more for reproductive freedom than any other, and a Harris-Walz administration is poised to build on that legacy. The stakes have never been higher and the contrast between a Harris-Walz administration and a Trump-Vance administration could not be more clear. Our more than 4 million members are fired up and ready to send Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz to the White House.”
Gov. Tim Walz has been a champion for reproductive freedom throughout his political career, implementing key efforts to protect and expand abortion rights and access during his time as governor and earning a consistent 100% on Reproductive Freedom for All’s congressional record during his time in Congress before that.
- As Minnesota’s governor, Walz signed the PRO Act into law, protecting the right to abortion under state law. This action made Minnesota the first state after the fall of Roe to enact new protections for abortion.
- He also signed a bill to protect abortion patients and providers from arrest and extradition for providing and accessing care legal in Minnesota, as well as multiple additional bills to expand access to reproductive health care, including abortion and contraception, into law.
- As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Walz cosponsored legislation to lock the federal right to abortion into law and voted against anti-abortion Republicans’ efforts to ban abortion and roll back reproductive freedom.
