Reproductive Freedom for All California Applauds State Legislature’s $90 Million Investment in Planned Parenthood to Counter Trump’s Attacks on Reproductive Health Care
Sacramento, CA – Yesterday, the California legislature approved a $90 million emergency investment in Planned Parenthood and other health clinics across the state to counter the Trump administration’s attacks on reproductive health care. Since Republicans’ budget bill eliminated Medicaid funding for abortion providers last July, five Planned Parenthood clinics in California have closed, and thousands of Californians have lost access to Medicaid-funded reproductive health care.
Reproductive Freedom for All Senior Director of California Campaigns Kristin Slevin released the following statement in response:
“California is showing what it looks like to fight back against the Trump administration’s relentless attacks on reproductive freedom. This $90 million investment is urgently needed— Trump’s cuts put access to the critical services providers like Planned Parenthood offer, including family medicine, behavioral health, prenatal care, STI testing, and cancer screenings out of reach for thousands of our neighbors. We thank the California legislature for taking decisive action to keep remaining clinics open and ensure people can access the essential care they need. We’re ready to work alongside Governor Newsom—a real champion on reproductive freedom—to get this funding to providers as quickly as possible.”
