Reproductive Freedom for All Calls Out PA Supreme Court Candidate Carolyn Carluccio’s Ties to Anti-Abortion Groups
Washington, DC — As Election Day swiftly approaches, Republican judicial candidate Carolyn Carluccio continues to rack up support from anti-abortion extremists in her bid for a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Knowing the importance of state courts in the fight for abortion rights and access, Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Judge Daniel McCaffery for the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in early October.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“We simply cannot risk having a judge on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court who refuses to recognize our fundamental rights. Carolyn Carluccio’s ties to anti-abortion groups are proof positive of her loyalties and show exactly how out of touch she is with the values of the vast majority of Pennsylvanians.”
Over the last several weeks, Carluccio secured national anti-abortion endorsements and has seen thousands of anti-abortion activists rally in support of her campaign. Many of these organizations enthusiastically endorsed Carluccio in the primary when she displayed her anti-abortion credentials on her website. Following the primary, Carluccio erased the anti-abortion language from her website.
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND:
- Carluccio secured the endorsement of Frank Pavone, the president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council. Pavone posted his endorsement from the Pennsylvania March for Life where “abortion ban advocates [rallied] for Carluccio’s Supreme Court bid.”
- The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation is distributing its 2023 “pro-life voter guide” with an endorsement of Carolyn Carluccio for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
- The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation is an extreme anti-abortion organization that fights against abortion from the “point of conception.” This so-called personhood language could have sweeping consequences if put into law. Not only would it criminalize abortion, but it could also ban stem cell research, assisted reproductive technology like IVF, and common forms of birth control.
- Carluccio also secured the endorsement of the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania, whose mission is to encourage and equip “PA.’s citizens to contact their local public officials in support of pro-life public policies.”
