Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Arizona Democrats Successfully Sending Abortion Ban Repeal to the Governor’s Desk
Washington, DC — Today, Arizona State Senate Democrats have successfully passed a repeal of Arizona’s 1864 abortion ban. The repeal now heads to Governor Hobbs’ desk to be signed into law. Arizona state Democrats led this effort after the Arizona Supreme Court—a court stacked by anti-abortion extremists—upheld the ban last month. After the repeal is signed by the governor, it will become effective 90 days after the Legislature closes business for the Regular Session.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Abortion bans put our health, families, and futures in danger – and we are grateful for the tenacity of Arizona Democrats who refused to give up on repealing this archaic, cruel abortion ban. But our work isn’t done: Arizonans are still living under a cruel abortion ban, and we are all facing the threat of a second Trump presidency. Together with our members, we’ll work to elect reproductive freedom champions up and down the ticket, pass the ballot initiative in Arizona, and ensure a federal right to abortion for everybody.”
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement:
“We’re grateful to our champions in the state legislature who refused to back down in the face of this fight. We look forward to Governor Hobbs signing this repeal into law demonstrating clear intent that no person should have to face the consequences of this extreme abortion ban. We will continue to work with our champions in the state to fight back any efforts from anti-abortion extremists to pass any more abortion restrictions that will further decimate abortion access in Arizona.”
