Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Governor Greg Abbott for Signing Bounty-Hunter Abortion Ban Into Law
Austin, TX — Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed HB 7 into law, cementing a cruel bounty-hunter abortion ban that will allow Texans to sue manufacturers, distributors, or providers of medication abortion and receive a minimum of $100,000 in damages.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and Texas Republicans are going out of their way to impose their cruel and dangerous abortion bans not only on Texans, but also across state lines. This bill is a direct response to states across the country that have passed shield laws to protect patients, providers and manufacturers. It is egregious and unconstitutional. The same anti-abortion zealots who voted for this bill are also attacking Texans’ voter rights and subverting the will of voters at every level.”
The passage of HB 7 comes as Texas Republicans push forward one of the most extreme agendas in the country—appeasing Trump and redrawing congressional maps to gain five additional seats for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections.
Texans are already living under three deadly abortion bans, and the passage of HB 7 cements yet another. This will not only hurt pregnant people and their families, but will put providers in a dangerous position as they are forced to navigate a new political landscape that puts their jobs in jeopardy.
