Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns House Passage of GOP Proposal that Raises Costs and Attacks Abortion Coverage

Washington, DC — Today, House Republicans passed their eleventh-hour health care “plan” to impose new abortion coverage restrictions while failing to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits. This move will saddle millions of families with exorbitant health care costs in the new year—or strip their insurance coverage away completely.

With ACA tax credits set to expire in days, Democrats have repeatedly pushed for a clean extension to protect coverage and stabilize costs. Today, Republicans chose to double down on a partisan proposal that raises costs, undermines coverage, and caters to anti-abortion extremists—all while offering no real relief to families.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“This vote makes one thing painfully clear: Republicans are barreling our country toward a health care crisis that will affect millions of families. Instead of extending tax credits to keep people insured, they’re pushing abortion restrictions and calling it a ‘plan.’ It’s a sham—and working families will pay the price.”

Ahead of today’s vote, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that he has successfully gathered the necessary number of petition signatures to force a vote on the only real solution to end the impending health care crisis: a clean three-year extension of the ACA enhanced premium tax credits. The vote is expected in January.
