Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Speaker Johnson’s Move to Block IVF Coverage for Military Families

Yesterday evening, Congress released the final text of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which notably excluded a provision—at Speaker Mike Johnson’s behest—that would have expanded in vitro fertilization (IVF) insurance coverage for all active duty military members and their families. Currently, insurance only covers IVF for servicemembers whose infertility was caused by a severe illness or injury while on active duty.

Reproductive Freedom for All Vice President of Political and Government Relations Ryan Stitzlein released the following statement:

“Speaker Mike Johnson worked in the shadows to kill a provision that would have expanded access to IVF for our active duty servicemembers and their families. It’s a cruel move that exposes how hollow Johnson’s so-called ‘family values’ really are. And it shows, once again, that Donald Trump’s MAGA acolytes like Mike Johnson will always put their extremist anti-abortion, anti-IVF agenda first, even ahead of the people who make great sacrifices to serve our country.”

This news comes amid the Trump Administration’s repeated attacks on veterans’ health care.
