Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns The Advancement of The Labor, Health, and Human Services Bill
Washington, DC — Today, House Republicans advanced their version of the Labor, Health, and Human Services (LHHS) FY26 spending bill, which attacks reproductive freedom by defunding critical programs and reducing access to abortion and family planning services. This is part of a strategy from anti-abortion politicians to hijack the FY26 spending bills to pursue their radical anti-abortion, anti LGBTQ+, and anti-DEI agenda by zeroing out funding for critical programs and including harmful riders.
Reproductive Freedom for All Vice President of Political and Government Relations, Ryan Stitzlein released the following statement:
“This bill is an outright abuse of power by congressional Republicans to force their anti-abortion agenda on the American people. This is another deceptive attempt to insert their extremist policies into must-pass legislation because they know voters would never support it otherwise.”
The anti-abortion extremists’ bill:
- Includes the discriminatory Hyde amendment, which pushes abortion care even further out of reach for people who get their health care coverage through LHHS programs, like Medicaid
- Undercuts non-discrimination policies and increases denials of care
- Defunds Planned Parenthood
- Eliminates funding for the Title X Family Planning Program
- Eliminates funding for the evidence-based, comprehensive Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program
- Increases funding for ineffective and harmful abstinence-only education programs (branded as “sexual risk avoidance”)
- Blocks funding for President Biden’s two post-Dobbs executive orders, both of which sought to address the abortion rights and access crisis exacerbated by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and both of which have been rescinded by Pres. Trump
- Interferes with training for health care professionals to perform, assist with, counsel for, or refer for abortion care
- Attacks LGBTQ+ folks, including children
- Eliminates diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
