Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns the Trump Administration Ripping Away Abortion Care from U.S. Veterans

Washington, DC —  Last week, the Trump administration took action to roll back abortion care access for U.S. veterans, limiting care only to those who are on the verge of death. The administration quietly released a proposed rule to eliminate nearly all exceptions to the Veterans Affairs (VA) abortion ban, including for instances of rape, incest, and danger to the health of the pregnant person.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“If it’s not bad enough that the Trump Administration continually attacks our reproductive freedoms at every turn, they are now turning their back on this country’s veterans. Our veterans deserve to have their rights and freedoms defended just as they defend ours. We can not allow lifesaving healthcare to be on the chopping block.”

Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA) is introducing a bill that would ensure veterans’ access to abortion and related care, services, counseling, and medication, superseding Trump’s proposed rule. Reproductive Freedom for All has endorsed the Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act.
