Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns the Trump Administration’s Attacks on Veterans’ Access to Health and Reproductive Care
Tomorrow, people across the country will celebrate, honor, and thank all the brave veterans who have served this country and recognize their sacrifices.
However, we know that the Trump administration has taken significant action that hurts veterans and their ability to receive health care. Ahead of this Veteran’s Day, here’s a look at the Trump administration’s attacks on veterans:
- Severely Restricting Access to Abortion for Veterans
- In August, the Trump administration took action to roll back abortion care access for U.S. veterans, limiting care only to those who are on the verge of death.
- No longer providing treatment for male breast cancer:
- Under Trump, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it will no longer provide coverage for treatment of male breast cancer unless it can be proven that the cancer is service-connected, reversing a key policy that required this care as part of its treatment for reproductive cancers.
- Rather than making decisions based on science, the Trump administration is citing ideological claims about gender. This will harm the health and safety of veterans who rely on VA for their care.
- Firing Veterans from federal jobs
- 30% of the federal workforce is veterans, and Trump’s massive layoffs of federal employees are taking a toll.
- In July, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced they are planning to reduce staff, cutting nearly 30,000 employees by the end of 2025–many of those jobs are held by veterans.
- Veterans have described their job loss “as a betrayal of their military service.”
Reproductive Freedom for All remains committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the reproductive care they need.
