Reproductive Freedom for All Demands Senate Action as Health Care Costs Soar for Millions
Washington, DC — Today, the U.S. House passed Democrats’ bill to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits that millions of families relied on to afford their health insurance before Republicans allowed the subsidies to expire at the end of 2025. For months, Republicans stalled, sabotaged, and pushed new abortion restrictions instead of taking meaningful action to stave off the impending crisis. Now, Americans are paying the price since insurance costs spiked on January 1, forcing families to pay crushing premiums or drop their coverage altogether.
Senate Republicans previously blocked legislation that would provide a clean extension.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Republicans have caused health care costs to explode and families to lose lifesaving coverage—and thanks to Leader Jeffries and House Democrats, the Senate now has a chance to make it right. Lawmakers need to stop playing politics with people’s lives, take up the House bill, and pass a clean extension to lower costs and deliver the relief millions of Americans urgently need.”
