Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan Applauds Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Final State of the State Address and Fierce Advocacy for Reproductive Freedom
Following Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s final State of the State address, Reproductive Freedom for All thanked the governor for her steadfast leadership in advancing and defending reproductive freedom. Throughout her two terms, Gov. Whitmer strengthened protections for Michiganders, repealed dangerous laws that restricted care, and held the line against the Trump administration’s relentless attacks on abortion.
As governor, Whitmer has consistently championed reproductive freedom, including enacting the Reproductive Health Act to repeal Michigan’s targeted restrictions on abortion providers and legislation to expand health care and make birth control more accessible. Gov. Whitmer also repealed the state’s extreme 1931 abortion ban that criminalized providers and, in 2022, helped secure the historic passage of Michigan’s Prop 3, which enshrined the right to reproductive freedom—including abortion—in the state constitution.
Reproductive Freedom for All’s Michigan Campaigns Director Shanay Whittaker released a statement:
“Governor Whitmer’s legacy is one of courage and conviction. Because of her leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting reproductive freedom, Michiganders have better access to health care, stronger constitutional protections, and confidence that our most personal decisions belong to us—not politicians. Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan is deeply grateful for Governor Whitmer’s partnership, fierce advocacy, and tireless work to safeguard our fundamental rights and protect our most basic freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, lives, and futures.”
