Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Election of Mike Johnson As Speaker
Washington, DC — Today, the extremist GOP majority in the U.S. House of Representatives elected U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) as speaker. Johnson has received an A+ rating from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and a 0% score from Reproductive Freedom for All every year since he was elected to the House. He has already cosponsored a national abortion ban. Prior to Johnson’s time in Congress, he was an attorney representing Louisiana in efforts to restrict access to abortion in a case that eventually went in front of the Supreme Court as June Medical Services v. Russo.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Mike Johnson is a dangerous threat to reproductive freedom, just like the rest of his caucus. His election as speaker only serves to underscore the urgency of electing reproductive freedom champions to Congress so we can take back the gavel in 2024.”
