Reproductive Freedom for All Responds To Missouri, Kansas, and Idaho Attorneys General Effort to Ban Medication Abortion
Washington, DC ā Last week, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway, joined by attorneys general from Kansas and Idaho, announced that she is expanding these anti-abortion statesā efforts to ban abortion medication. The Attorneys General filed an amended complaint in Missouri v. FDA, the ongoing case where extremists are using disinformation to threaten access to mifepristone nationwide. Adding to their previous baseless claims, the states are now asking the court to also roll back the U.S. Food and Drug Administrationās recent approval of a new generic version of mifepristone.
This news comes after anti-abortion Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk transferred the case from his court in the Northern District of Texas to the Eastern District of Missouri, ensuring litigation would continue in a district packed with anti-abortion judges who were appointed by Trump.
Mifepristone has been FDA-approved with a strong safety record for nearly 25 years, and is used in more than half of all abortions nationwide.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
āThe same three attorneys general from Missouri, Kansas, and Idaho have consistently tried to ban medication abortion across the country. This is what it looks like to supposedly āleave abortion to the statesā ā it means that extremists will try to convince the public that they arenāt attacking abortion but will actually weaponize the courts to create a backdoor national abortion ban. Catherine Hanaway and her anti-abortion colleagues have repeatedly tried to undermine more than two decades of science and data. They will not stop until mifepristone is banned everywhere.ā
