Californians are Sounding off for their Reproductive Freedom: Lobby Day Recap
We’re more determined than ever to make California a safe haven for reproductive health care.
As Republicans in Congress relentlessly work to undermine our freedoms, we’re taking action in California.
At our annual Lobby Day, volunteers and supporters gathered at the state Capitol to talk directly with lawmakers about key reproductive freedom issues. Assemblymember Maggy Krell and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry also joined us, giving inspiring remarks about what’s next in the fight for reproductive freedom and how we can take action!
Our members met with more than 40 legislative officials to advocate for bills that would strengthen reproductive freedom in our state.

Strengthening Protections for Reproductive Freedom in California
During this year’s legislative session, we’ve been working to expand access to health care, protect providers, and strengthen access to medication abortion in California in the face of ongoing threats to reproductive freedom by the Trump administration.
These bills will strengthen protections for providers and patients accessing reproductive health care services—especially for those accessing abortion medication or emergency surgery.
Our volunteers and supporters advocated for the following bills at Lobby Day:
AB 54
will protect medication abortion providers and manufacturers from civil, criminal, or professional liability.
AB 260
will protect access to medication abortion, gender-affirming care, and other sexual reproductive health care and protect the ability to access this care through telehealth.
AB 551
will expand access to reproductive health care treatments in emergency departments across California.
Making California a Safe Haven for Reproductive Care
California has a unique opportunity to fight back by setting an example of what reproductive freedom can look like.
We can defend against Trump’s attacks by passing proactive laws that will protect our residents, providers, and those forced to travel here for care.
These proactive laws include:
- AB 54 will allow California to sue the Trump administration if they go after reproductive health care providers.
- AB 40 will clarify that abortion care is an emergency service, ensuring that no one in California is turned away from care when needed the most.

Project 2025 calls on the Trump administration to restrict access to birth control, IVF, medication abortion, and other reproductive health care nationwide.
But we will persist in continuing to work towards a future where everyone has the freedom to make decisions about their lives and their futures.
