Washington, DC — Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded four days of confirmation hearings following Donald Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. The hearings were rife with deflections by and disinformation from Senate Republicans and a mix of deeply troubling responses and extensive evasion by Amy Barrett:
“Four days of hearings and we are sure of two things: this nominee presents a clear and present danger to Roe and reproductive freedom and the entire process should be considered as illegitimate and an undemocratic power grab by the GOP,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “From Amy Coney Barrett’s disturbing non-answers on core American principles to news that she omitted pertinent information on her questionnaire, evidence has piled up that these confirmation proceedings should stop now. Millions of Americans have spoken: let the voters decide the next president and the next president decide who fills this seat. Any other decision will cost the GOP dearly in the looming elections and many thereafter.”
