Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Trump Executive Order Undermining Voting Rights
Washington, DC — Today, Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies—including the Department of Homeland Security—to impose unlawful restrictions on mail-in voting ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The order also directs the Department of Justice to investigate anyone who they deem to have disobeyed the order and threatens to withhold federal funding from states that do not comply.
The move comes as Republicans have so far been unable to advance the SAVE Act, a bill that would impose the unnecessary and onerous requirement that voters present a birth certificate or similar documentation when registering to vote and again when they go to cast their ballot.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This is a blatant attack on our freedom to vote ahead of a critical election. Trump and his Republican allies can’t win on their incredibly unpopular agenda, so they are trying to suppress the vote, confuse voters, and rig the election. We will fight back—because our democracy and our reproductive freedom both depend on our ability to make our own decisions without political interference.”
