Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses Ruben Gallego for U.S. Senate in Arizona
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All announced its endorsement of Congressmember Ruben Gallego for the U.S. Senate in Arizona. This is the first endorsement Reproductive Freedom for All makes under its new name.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“We know Rep. Ruben Gallego will fight by our side because he has throughout his entire career in Congress. Electing him to the U.S. Senate could mean the difference between passing critical abortion and voting rights legislation or seeing it again blocked by extremist Republicans. The stakes in Arizona have never been higher, and electing a reproductive freedom champion into this seat is essential for protecting and advancing our constitutional rights, not only for Arizonans but for all Americans. This is why we are thrilled to make this endorsement our first as Reproductive Freedom for All.”
Rep. Ruben Gallego released the following statement:
“Reproductive Freedom for All is leading the charge to protect abortion rights across America — including right here in Arizona — and I am honored to have them on our team. At a time when GOP extremists are pushing abortion bans every chance they get, I promise to be an unwavering defender of reproductive rights in the U.S. Senate. Your private health care decisions are yours and yours alone — and I’ll never back down from the politicians who try to take that right away.”
During his time in Congress, Rep. Gallego has been a champion for reproductive freedom, co-sponsoring priority bills, including the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act, which would advance abortion access and reproductive freedom and also repeal the Hyde Amendment. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee and voted to expand contraceptive coverage in the FY24 NDAA markup. Rep. Gallego has consistently received a 100% rating from Reproductive Freedom For All throughout his career in public service, earning our endorsement for his 2018, 2020, and 2022 reelection bids.
In January 2022, Reproductive Freedom For All changed our endorsement criteria to reflect our commitment to voting rights, stating that we will not endorse or support any senator who refused to find a path forward on passing the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. Soon afterward, Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) was one of just two Democrats at the time in the U.S. Senate to block a filibuster carveout for voting rights legislation.
