Reproductive Freedom for All Runs Its Largest-Ever Electoral Program to Galvanize Voters in Most Consequential Election of Our Lifetime
Washington, DC — Tonight, the polls close for the 2024 election, and voters across the country have turned out en masse to make their voices heard. Knowing the stakes of this election and the consequences for abortion access, Reproductive Freedom for All ran its largest electoral program in our organization’s history to elect Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz to the White House and secure victories for reproductive freedom champions up and down the ballot in states across the country.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Abortion was the driving issue in this election. Women are dying because of Donald Trump’s abortion bans, and we can and must stop him. I’ve been to every battleground state this election and felt the same energy everywhere I went. We are fighting back.”
Our 2024 electoral program focused on engaging members and voters—building a winning coalition of women voters, Gen Z voters, and voters of color—through digital and relational organizing, deep field investments, robust accountability and communications programs, on-the-ground support in key races and ballot initiatives, and more. We have boots on the ground in key states, including our chapter states of Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, harnessing the full power of our more than 4 million members through phone banks and text banks, canvasses, and online mobilization. We expanded our focus this year to include voters who are often overlooked by traditional electoral programs, including voters on community and commuter college campuses. The program:
- Made over 200,000 calls through our volunteer phonebanks to key voters in must-win states (including women, young voters, and voters of color), and our member volunteers completed more than 600 canvassing shifts knocking on doors in battleground states.
- Connected voters with the tools and resources they needed to mobilize their own communities, training over 1,300 volunteers for our peer-to-peer texting program and contacting over 12 million voters in key states to confirm voter registrations, identify reproductive freedom voters, and help them make a plan to vote.
- Ramped up our youth organizing program, which included working on community and commuter college campuses and the launch of our first-ever relational organizing program. We expanded our student organizing operations to Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, working with our National Youth Action Council, which is actively working with a group of 1,800 engaged volunteers.
- Ran digital, TV, canvass, and phone campaigns to reach key voters with a focus on women, young people and people of color through the Reproductive Freedom for All Freedom Fund, including:
- Launching an $8 million campaign in partnership with Future Forward (FF PAC) for “Who You Trust,” an ad contrasting Trump and Vice President Harris on reproductive freedom and economic stability.
- Launching an ad holding Trump responsible for the abortion ban that led to the preventable death of Amber Nicole Thurman in Georgia. The ad was accompanied by a push to dial and text over 150,000 voters. Launching a phone campaign in the battleground states of Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania to reach 1.5 million voters.
- Launching a final GOTV push canvass in Arizona, Nevada, and Michigan with 800 shifts knocking on doors, focused on reaching key voters we need to turn out for Vice President Harris and our endorsed Senate candidates.
- Endorsed and supported nearly 400 candidates in races across the country, from statehouses to the White House.
- Worked alongside our partners in Nevada and Arizona as founding members of the ballot measures campaigns to protect abortion rights and access and supported key measures in other states.
- Held “Restore Our Rights” member-organizing events calling voters on key electoral races across the country and giving them opportunities for direct action, as well as engaged voters through “Turn Out Tuesday,” which provides easy actions to take between now and Election Day.
More than two years after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in its Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, abortion has been the top issue in this election, mobilizing voters in red, blue, and purple states to protect reproductive freedom through ballot measures and by electing candidates who will safeguard their rights. In every election since the Supreme Court overturned Roe, voters sent the same powerful message: They want their rights back, and they will vote for candidates who will protect and expand access to abortion care. Eight in 10 Americans say the decision to have an abortion should be made by the person who is pregnant, and recent polling shows that a record-high number of voters support abortion rights and say they will vote for candidates who do, too.
Republicans’ abortion bans continue to endanger lives and families in more than 20 states—even as horrific stories detailing the deadly and dangerous ramifications continue to come to light. Meanwhile, Donald Trump and congressional Republicans are preparing to ban all abortion nationwide if elected and attacking other reproductive freedoms—including contraception and assisted fertility treatments like IVF. With reproductive freedom on the line, electing candidates from statehouses to the White House who will protect and expand it and protect abortion rights through ballot measures is more important than ever.
