"Hope is a discipline. The power of community is what first brought me to this work, and it’s what keeps me motivated to keep going.

In our “Meet Reproductive Freedom for All” series, get to know our community—organizers and activists who believe that everybody should be free to control their own bodies and lives. Our movement is growing every day—we want you to be a part of it.

Growing up in Arizona during Joe Arpaio’s time as Sheriff showed me the power of community.

Living in Arizona is not always easy. The state’s politics are all over the place. As a teen and young adult, I saw the fear and pain that Sheriff Arpaio forced on my community with his racial profiling, immigration crackdowns, and building Tent City. But I also got to see the community come together to finally defeat him by voting him out. It was a powerful and a pivotal moment in my organizing journey. It helped me see what can be accomplished by people power and that a better world is possible.

In school, I majored in Justice Studies which was an eye opening experience. It taught me about how so many issues intersect with each other and that all of our fights are connected. This motivated me even further. I started getting involved with local organizations working to make a difference. I learned the power of digital organizing and how new kinds of media can be used to meet people where they are.

The power of community is what first brought me to this work and it’s what keeps me motivated to keep going. I’ve seen what people can do together when we demand better.

Memorable Moments

During the 2024 election, I helped lead an amazing team of texting volunteers. In the weeks leading up to election day, we were texting folks to remind them to get out and vote. One man reached out unsure of how to find his polling place. One of our volunteers was able to look up information for his state and helped him find his closest polling place. He later replied very thankful because he was a single dad and had been too overwhelmed to find a polling location by himself. I think it really highlights the power of organizing and connecting with people.

Looking Ahead

This year has been scary for so many. But I also think there’s a big opportunity to connect with people and bring them into the fight. The chaos of this year is only waking people up that things don’t have to be like this. I’m looking forward to continuing to use digital tools to check in with people, have meaningful conversations, and build trust in our movements. They say that hope is a discipline and we can’t stop fighting for the future we deserve.

Fun fact

I’ve traveled solo through 19 countries.
