Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses Colin Allred for U.S. Senate in Texas

Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All announced its endorsement of Rep. Colin Allred for the U.S. Senate against anti-abortion extremist Senator Ted Cruz. Throughout Rep. Allred’s congressional career, he has consistently received a 100% score on Reproductive Freedom for All’s congressional scorecard. During his time in Congress, he cosponsored the EACH Act, the Women’s Health Protection Act, and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Texans face one of the cruelest abortion bans in the nation. Time and again, we hear horrific stories about the consequences of those bans: people being blocked from the care they need, even in life-threatening circumstances. Ted Cruz has helped lead the charge to ban abortion—and he wants to bring bans like Texas’ to every state in the country. We can’t afford to allow him another term. Rep. Colin Allred has been a steadfast champion of reproductive freedom, and as a Texan myself, I could not be more ready to ensure he replaces Ted Cruz in the Senate.”

Rep. Colin Allred released the following statement:

“Texans’ freedoms are under attack, and that includes the freedom to get the health care you need — including an abortion,” said Congressman Colin Allred. “I will fight to restore those freedoms in the Senate and ensure we protect access to birth control and reproductive health care. I am proud to earn the endorsement of Reproductive Freedom for All and look forward to working alongside them to beat Ted Cruz.”

During his time in Congress, Rep. Allred cosponsored the EACH Act, the Women’s Health Protection Act, and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act. He signed on to the congressional amicus brief in AHM v. FDA.

Senator Ted Cruz scored 0% on Reproductive Freedom for All’s 2023 congressional scorecard—and for every other year he has been in office. Cruz has not only championed banning mifepristone, a safe and effective medication used for abortion and miscarriage care, but he also tried to shut down the government to defund Planned Parenthood and called the Supreme Court’s decision to end Roe v. Wade a “massive victory.”

Reproductive Freedom for All is already on the ground in states across the country as part of its largest-ever electoral program, working to ensure reproductive freedom champions are elected from statehouses to the White House and that we protect and expand abortion rights and access through ballot measures. Our 2024 program connects voters with opportunities to make immediate, tangible change to help build a future where everyone is free to make their own decisions about their bodies, lives, and families.

In November, on the heels of yet another resounding victory for abortion rights in elections across the country, Reproductive Freedom for All launched its “Vote for Repro Freedom” campaign. This digital and grassroots campaign will harness the momentum of big wins in Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky by encouraging voters to commit to voting in 2024 for reproductive freedom champions as the first step in mobilizing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
