Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Second GOP Presidential Debate
Washington, DC – During the second Republican presidential debate, candidates again embraced a national abortion ban and demonstrated that they could not be more out of touch with the will of the American people. Candidates on stage pushed extremist lies in an attempt to distract the public from and evade responsibility for the harm of their anti-abortion policies.
Reproductive Freedom for All Vice President of Political and Government Relations Ryan Stitzlein released the following statement in response:
“Every Republican candidate on that stage—and at home watching—would sign an abortion ban into law if elected president. We can expect them to continue to flip flop and hedge their positions and invent bizarre new phrases to cover up the truth, but voters know better.”
Voters do not want a national abortion ban. Recent USA TODAY/Suffolk University polling found 80% of voters oppose a federal abortion ban—including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents. In addition, New Navigator polling found that a majority of voters also “believe it is likely that Republicans would pass a nationwide abortion ban if they take control of both the White House and Congress in 2024.”
