South Carolina wants to jail people for having abortions.
And even if you don’t live in South Carolina, this matters: This bill is a testing ground for national legislation. If they can pass this, anti-abortion extremists will try to replicate it in other states and at the federal level.
Absolutely not on our watch.
South Carolina already has an extremely restrictive 6-week abortion ban, but S.1095 would make accessing care much worse. This bill bans all abortions in the state, with no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal diagnoses. Even more horrifying, if this bill is enacted, South Carolina would become the first state in the nation to make accessing abortion care a crime.
It would criminalize everyone—providers, funders, even a friend helping someone obtain abortion care.
