David Schweikert’s Anti-Abortion Agenda Will Continue Hurting Arizonans

Phoenix, AZ — Today, anti-abortion extremist David Schweikert launched his bid to be Governor of Arizona. Schweikert has repeatedly supported anti-abortion legislation, including voting for strict abortion bans, voting to defund Planned Parenthood and rescind Title X protections, as well as supporting the federal budget bill that cuts Medicaid for 360,000 people and defunds rural hospitals. Schweikert’s record is a direct contrast to the will of the 9 in 10 Arizonans who support the freedom to decide if and when to start or grow a family.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement in response:

“Sleepy David Schweikert has proven time and again that he cannot be trusted to stand up for Arizonans, and he has repeatedly voted to make access to reproductive care more difficult for hardworking families. We rely on Governor Hobbs to hold the line against the GOP-led legislature’s repeated attacks on abortion access, and Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona is ready to make sure Schweikert doesn’t become governor.”

Last month, Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona hosted the “Sleepy Schweikert Snoozefest,” a Pajama Protest to hold Representative David Schweikert accountable for sleeping through a major vote on the federal budget bill. In response, Schweikert mocked concerned constituents, accusing them of “whining and bedwetting” about their Medicaid being cut.

Additionally, Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona members worked tirelessly to mobilize voters to secure a victory for Adelita Grijalva in the primary and general election.
