Georgia’s Legislative Session Fails to Address Access to Reproductive Health Care, Deepening the Crisis of Care
The GOP targeted trans health care while failing to expand Medicaid, protect rural hospitals, or address Georgia’s deepening crisis of care, all while anti-abortion and anti-IVF proposals loomed large.
Atlanta, GA— As the 2025 state legislative session comes to a close, Reproductive Freedom for All Georgia is sounding the alarm that the state is facing a crisis of care that was made worse by the anti-abortion and anti-trans legislation that the GOP brought forth. Georgia has one of the worst records in the country for health outcomes, and yet, the GOP chose to pass a bill that strips access to medically necessary health care for incarcerated trans people. Meanwhile, lawmakers failed to allow hearings for the Reproductive Freedom Act, fertility access bills, and critical efforts to crack down on fake pregnancy centers.
The GOP refused to expand Medicaid, leaving 18 rural hospitals at risk of closure and pregnant people across Georgia without care. Instead, they pushed legislation that criminalizes miscarriage, blocks access to IVF and gender-affirming care, and makes it harder for families to get the support they need to survive.
Alicia Stallworth, Reproductive Freedom for All’s Georgia Campaigns Director, released the following statement:
“Let’s be clear: this crisis did not happen by accident. It is a choice. A choice to limit individual freedoms and control bodies instead of ensuring people can live safe, healthy lives. This was an intentional choice by the GOP to choke off funding for hospitals while giving $2 million in public funds to fake health clinics. A choice to attack trans people and criminalize pregnant people instead of funding real health care solutions. The people of Georgia deserve better, and we’re going to make sure voters know the GOP are to blame.”
Reproductive Freedom for All Georgia remains committed to building a future where every person has the freedom and ability to make personal decisions about their health, their bodies, and their families. Through legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, and coalition building, we work year-round to expand access to abortion, fertility care, gender-affirming care, and the full spectrum of reproductive health services. We will continue to monitor legislative developments, educate the public, and hold elected officials accountable for policies that impact the health and well-being of Georgians across the state.
