ICYMI: Reproductive Freedom for All Georgia Marks Four Years Since Dobbs and Highlights Where Reproductive Freedom Stands in the State
Four Years After Dobbs: Where the Debate Stands
Four years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, women in Georgia are suffering.
On the fourth anniversary of the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization—which stripped away the federal right to abortion access—Reproductive Freedom for All announced its midterm program, My Body. My Ballot. The $23.5 million investment will mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and help elect leaders who will protect reproductive freedom. Since Roe was overturned, Georgians have been on the frontlines of some of the most extreme abortion bans in modern history.
In Georgia, care has been severely restricted around the state by anti-abortion lawmakers. Rural areas lack proper OB-GYN care, abortion access is limited, and multiple women have been denied timely care—and in some cases left to die preventable deaths—because of the state’s abortion ban. Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Pavitra Abraham spoke with 11 Alive about how Georgians face some of the worst restrictions in the country, and how it has impacted families left to bear the brunt of the bans. With our midterm program, My Body. My Ballot. Reproductive Freedom for All is organizing and investing to re-elect Sen. Jon Ossoff, help put a Democrat in the governor’s mansion, and elect reproductive champions all over the state come November.

Abraham also spoke with the Georgia Courier about the ongoing hardships people in Georgia have faced in the years since Roe was struck down. “People who are pregnant are being denied treatment and dying during miscarriages because doctors are afraid to care for them,” said Abraham. More than half of Georgia’s counties lack an OB-GYN physician, driving one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. Black women in the state are twice as likely to experience severe complications or die due to pregnancy.

Last week in Atlanta, to kick off My Body. My Ballot., Reproductive Freedom for All Georgia hosted a phone bank and soccer game to celebrate the World Cup and engage more volunteers in this fight. Access, care, and autonomy should never depend on where you live or who you are. Reproductive Freedom for All has begun organizing on the ground earlier than ever and in more races to elect reproductive champions down the ballot who will protect and expand reproductive care across the state.
