Press Release Nevada
Washington, DC — Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Julie Rikelman to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Judge Rikelman brings decades of experience to the court and will be a fair-minded, qualified judge. Prior to her confirmation, Rikelman represented Mississippi’s last abortion clinic before the U.S. Supreme Court, challenging the state’s ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“We thank President Biden and the Senate for this important confirmation, which is a step towards restoring some trust in our judicial system. Julie Rikelman is a highly qualified, competent legal expert with a demonstrable record of protecting reproductive freedom and other fundamental rights. We look forward to continuing our work with the Senate and the Biden administration to advance reproductive freedom for all.”
For over 50 years, NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels—including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and post-partum care, and paid family leave—for everybody. NARAL is powered by its 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country, representing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
