NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of Governor Steve Bullock in his campaign to represent Montana in the U.S. Senate. Bullock currently serves as Governor of Montana and is now seeking to flip the seat held by anti-choice Republican Senator Steve Daines.
“As Governor of Montana, Steve Bullock has been a fierce champion of reproductive freedom, often serving as Montanans’ last line of defense against Republicans’ relentless attacks on abortion access,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America President llyse Hogue. “With so much at stake in 2020 and the fate of Roe v. Wade in the crosshairs, flipping this seat is critical for gaining a Senate majority in support of reproductive freedom. There is no candidate better positioned or more qualified to take on this fight than Governor Bullock, and NARAL is proud to support his candidacy.”
“I’m grateful for NARAL’s support in this race and for their years of advocating for reproductive freedom,” said Montana Governor Steve Bullock. “Politicians have no business making health care decisions for women. As governor, I vetoed legislation that infringed on the right to choose and helped make Title X funding a statutory appropriation so that it could no longer be used as a partisan football by the legislature. In the Senate, I will continue to stand up for the right of all women to make their own health care decisions.”
As Governor of Montana, Steve Bullock has fought to expand access to affordable reproductive healthcare, including abortion care, for Montanans. He has also consistently vetoed anti-choice legislation, including cruel bills that would promote political interference in deeply personal family decisions and ban the use of telemedicine for abortion care, which is particularly crucial in rural areas.
Republican Senator Steve Daines has a 0% score from NARAL in the Congressional Record on Choice. As Senator, Daines has voted to confirm dozens of anti-choice judges, including voting to advance the nomination of anti-choice extremist Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court — which cemented a majority on the highest court in the land that is hostile to Roe v. Wade and emboldened anti-choice lawmakers to double down on their agenda of overturning Roe.
