NARAL Pro-Choice America Reaffirms Support for Sen. Hassan’s Reelection as Ardent Anti-Choice Opponent Emerges From GOP Primary
Washington, DC – Yesterday, Republicans in New Hampshire chose anti-choice extremist Don Bolduc as their candidate to run against Senator Maggie Hassan in the 2022 midterm election.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“The contrast between anti-choice extremist Don Bolduc and Sen. Hassan could not be clearer: Bolduc is all-in on overriding the will of people in New Hampshire and passing a national abortion ban. I’ve known Maggie Hassan for two decades, and I can say with confidence that she is the fighter we need to protect and restore abortion rights for everyone. 8 in 10 Americans believe in legal abortion, and it’s up to NARAL and our champions like Sen. Hassan to give them a Congress that reflects that.”
Sen. Hassan was a fierce champion in the fight for reproductive freedom during her time as governor of New Hampshire. She has been unwavering in her commitment to advancing reproductive freedom as a senator, earning a 100% score in NARAL’s Congressional Record on Reproductive Freedom every year she has served in the U.S. Senate. Sen. Hassan has consistently cosponsored key legislation, including: the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act, and the Global Health, Empowerment and Rights (HER) Act. Moreover, Sen. Hassan has also led efforts to increase funding to the Title X family planning program, the only federal funding program dedicated solely to providing family planning services in the United States.
Anti-choice Republican Don Bolduc has signaled that he would continue the all-out assault on reproductive freedom orchestrated by MAGA Republicans blatantly disregarding the will of New Hampshirites. Bolduc has frequently expressed his extremist views by applauding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade as a “necessary constitutional correction,” including repeatedly downplaying the harm of the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision. Don Bolduc has persistently proven that he is out of touch with the vast majority of Granite Staters who support the right to abortion.
NARAL Pro-Choice America is ramping up its work to elect candidates up and down the ballot during a critical moment in the fight for reproductive freedom. NARAL, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and EMILY’s List announced a partnership in May to collectively spend a historic $150 million on the 2022 midterms to elect reproductive freedom champions up and down the ballot across the country.
