NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds as Department of Justice’s Asks Supreme Court to Rule on Medication Abortion
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Department of Justice petitioned for a writ of certiorari on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, which would elevate the lawsuit to the U.S. Supreme Court. While the status of medication abortion access remains unchanged for now, this fight is far from over.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Though access to mifepristone remains unchanged for now, the Department of Justice’s request for Supreme Court review brings us closer to a resolution. This lawsuit is baseless and the fair-minded decision here is clear. SCOTUS should do the right thing, but we’ll be here fighting for access no matter what comes next. Medication abortion is a safe, effective option for abortion care that has been used by millions of people for decades, and this lawsuit is nothing more than an extremist effort to ban it. ”
