NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds to the Outcome in Florida’s 26th Congressional District

Florida — Today, NARAL-endorsed incumbent Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell narrowly lost her reelection bid to Republican challenger, mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos Gimenez.
In response, NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement:
“Rep. Mucarsel-Powell ran an admirable race, and while we’re disappointed in the results, we’re grateful for all of Rep. Mucarsel-Powell’s work to protect and expand reproductive freedom during her time serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. There’s no doubt that Carlos Gimenez’s anti-choice, anti-freedom views are wildly out of step with the vast majority of Americans who support the legal right to abortion. The stakes are higher than ever, and NARAL Pro-Choice American and our 2.5 million members will never stop fighting to defeat politicians like Carlos Gimenez who work to interfere with personal decisions about our lives, families, and futures.”
Floridians elected Debbie Mucarsel-Powell to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 and she has earned a 100% from NARAL’s 2019 Congressional Record on Choice.
