Reproductive Freedom for All Calls for RFK Jr.’s Resignation After His Refusal to Uphold Science at Senate Finance Committee Hearing
Washington, DC — Today, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared in front of the Senate Finance Committee, where he spewed a steady stream of conspiracy theories and junk science in response to questioning from committee members.
Numerous members of the Senate Finance Committee—both Republicans and Democrats—called out Kennedy’s blatant disregard for the health and wellness of American families and the dangerous policies he has backed. In addition, he was questioned about his request for FDA Commissioner Martin Makary to conduct a full review of mifepristone.
As Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden noted in his closing statements, mifepristone is safe and effective, and has been for over two decades. The FDA’s politically-motivated review of mifepristone is not rooted in facts, and blatantly disregards over 200 existing studies of science-backed evidence that prove its safety and efficacy.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“The GOP is attacking Americans’ health care and reproductive freedom while a conspiracy theorist runs one of the most important agencies in the country. RFK Jr. has zero regard for scientific evidence, and that alone should disqualify him from dictating what is best for Americans’ health. The only option is for him to resign immediately. We’re grateful to Senator Wyden and our Democratic champions in the Senate Finance Committee for making him accountable and asking the tough questions.”
Reproductive Freedom for All will be launching a new social media campaign, as well as a petition that will be circulated to members across the country, calling for Kennedy’s resignation.
