Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Governor Hobbs Approves Critical Funding for Arizona Families
Phoenix, AZ — Today, Governor Hobbs approved an $18 billion budget package that will route funding to critical public benefit programs gutted by the passage of Trump’s so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Arizona’s budget package includes full funding for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)—Arizona’s Medicaid program—and Arizona’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). More than half of births in Arizona are covered by AHCCCS, and this budget will ensure the program can continue to provide lifesaving care to families across the state. The budget package will also provide funding to hospitals that were put at risk of closure by the GOP’s federal budget bill.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement:
“We’re thankful to Gov. Hobbs for protecting Arizona families as they face an unprecedented affordability crisis, and to our Democratic champions in the legislature who fought for a budget that provides real relief for Arizonans. But our fight does not end here—Reps. David Schweikert and Andy Biggs need to be reminded that they answer to Arizonans, and they need to own responsibility for putting hospitals and families at risk by siding with Trump over their own constituents.”
Reps. Schweikert and Biggs—alongside their Republican allies in Washington—put care at risk for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans, and put five hospitals and seven Arizona nursing homes at risk of closure, when they voted to pass Trump’s budget bill last year. Rep. Schweikert then cruelly dismissed Arizonans’ grave concerns around the decision to slash health care access, calling it “whining and bedwetting.”
