Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Republican Push to Continue Defunding Planned Parenthood
Washington, DC — As Republican leaders struggle to hold their conference together, anti-abortion hardliners are pushing for a permanent extension of the provision that “defunds” Planned Parenthood. These cuts would continue to take away access to contraception, cancer screenings, and other basic health care that millions of Americans depend on. The push comes after the Senate rejected Senator Josh Hawley’s amendment this week to extend the defunding provision passed last year, which is set to expire this summer.
This targeted attack on one of the nation’s largest providers of reproductive health care has already had devastating impacts, forcing clinics to close and leaving patients with fewer and farther options.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“The American people have been clear: 8 in 10 support the legal right to abortion and reproductive freedom. By doubling down on a widely unpopular agenda to “defund” Planned Parenthood, right-wing extremists in Washington are not just attacking health care, they’re ignoring the vast majority of their own constituents. Any lawmaker who supports these attacks is making a choice to be held accountable at the ballot box this November.”
Reproductive Freedom for All has already announced its first slate of 2026 U.S. Senate and House frontline endorsements, backing candidates who will fight to protect reproductive freedom, expand access to health care, and deliver real solutions to an affordability crisis that Republican extremism is intensifying with every policy decision.
